How to Attend a Meet and Greet

If you have been thinking of attending a meet and greet function for the first time, you are probably looking for some information on what will go on there. Meet and greets are events meant to bring together people with common interests. Whether you are all part of the same organization, part of the same fan club, or have any other common ties, this will merit a meet and greet. If you have heard that there will be a local meet and greet with a celebrity that you are a fan of, you should by all means attend. It’s a great chance not only to meet the celebrity, but also to meet your fellow like-minded fans.

Usually there will be a desk set up at which the celebrity will sit. The fans will be allowed to line up at a certain time. Whoever is there first gets to stand first in line until the person shows up and starts to shake hands. Usually it is best to show up a little early so that you don’t end up being too far back in the line. Either way you will end up waiting in line for a while, so you had best get used to that idea.

While in the line, you will find that it isn’t so bad just waiting there for your turn. You are surrounded by people with similar interests to you. It’s a great chance to meet some new friends, or at least make some small talk about the person that you have gone through so much trouble to meet. You can share your fan stories and compare your fan notes. You will find that it isn’t as bad as sitting in line at the DMV or the doctor’s office, since you really have something in common. It will make the time fly up until the big moment.

When you actually get to meet your celebrity, you will probably be very excited. Say a quick hello and shake their hand. If you have anything you’d like to say or ask, do so. Don’t try to initiate a long conversation or ask some sort of deep philosophical question. You will only create an awkward situation as you are taking up too much time and holding up the people behind you. Just be concise and quick, and be happy that you got the chance to meet someone that you look up to.
