Fan Mail: Writing to Your Favorite Celebrities

If you are a big fan of some sort of movie star, singer, actor, or politician, then you probably would jump at the chance to send a personal letter to him or her. This is definitely an option for anyone wanting to get in touch with their favorite star. Many celebrities have a mailing address specifically for fan mail, sometimes care of their agency. You can use any number of resources to get a hold of this address, and then send whatever you want. Just follow some guidelines to find the address, as well as to send the letter itself.

There are many online sites that try to index all of the known celebrity fan mail addresses. They also have comment sections where people can share whether the address worked or if they got the letter back in the mail. An internet search will give you many different options for these kinds of web sites. Visit as many as you can find. If you find multiple addresses for the same person, copy and paste them into a different document. You may end up with as many as 10 different alleged addresses. You will end up using all of them

Next you need to write your letter. Write something tasteful, and not too gushy. Tell them why you are a fan, and why you felt the need to write. Make a few drafts so that you know you have it perfect. Print off as many copies as you need, and send a copy to each one of the addresses you found on the internet. If you want a response, include a pre-labeled and pre-paid envelope with each of your letter (nobody ever said that fan-mail was cheap!) Next all you have to do is wait. If you are lucky, you will receive a form-letter response. If you are very lucky, you may even get a personalized reply or a signed photo.

People usually don’t write fan mail with the goal of getting a meaningful and thoughtful letter back. Usually it is just a great way to let someone know that you appreciate their work and that they are enjoyed by their fans. So if you feel compelled to write fan mail, keep that in mind throughout the whole process and you are sure to have a good experience.
